The CMX7241/CMX7341 provides a common platform to support digital and analogue FDMA and 2-slot TDMA PMR/LMR.

Based on CML’s FirmASIC® component technology, a Function Image™ (FI)  upload determines the CMX7241/CMX7341 overall function and operating characteristics.  The CMX7241 and CMX7341 provide the same system functionality and can accept the same FI but are targeted at different system implementations:

  • CMX7241 is pin compatible with the CMX7141 enabling a smooth forward evolution
  • CMX7341 has a differential I/Q Rx interface for optimum performance and direct connection to CML’s CMX994A/E Direct Conversion Receiver ( DCRx) ICs

The combination of CMX7341 and CMX994A/E ICs enables a small, low cost, low power consumption multi-standard PMR/LMR system to be realised.

CMX7241 Questions

Q: When using the CMX7341 I/Q AGC functionality, the currently used I/Q AGC step is reported back in the Aux 1 Data and Status Register ($A9).  How do these steps relate to the current actual gain settings within the CMX994A/CMX994E and CMX7341 devices?

A: The gain adjustment steps are automatically controlled by the CMX7341 when I/Q AGC is enabled.  When setting the optimal I/Q input signal level the CMX7341 will adjust its analogue input gain stage and LNA/VGA gain stages of the CMX994A/CMX994E.  The reported step gain breakdown is as follows:

FAQs

Q: How do you restore operation from a ‘bricked’ DE9945?

A: If using LPCXpresso, then follow these instructions to upgrade the LPCLink2 for CMSIS-DAP. Problems have been found due to incompatibility between the LPCLink2 and later versions of LPCXpresso; version 7.9.2 on. These later versions of LPCXpresso require the LPC-Link 2 to be configured for using “CMSIS-DAP” mode. This can be done by reprogramming the LPC-Link2 using NXP’s software update utility.

With the LPC-Link2 connected to the DE9945 and the boards powered on:

Open LPCXpresso with the DE9945 project selected.

Click the program flash button.

Set the dialog to program the DE9945 with the DE9945_Script_1_1.axf and the option “erase only required pages” selected. This will restore the GUI.

Power down the DE9945.

Connect the DE9945 USB connector to the PC and disconnect the LPC_Link2.

Power up the DE9945 and press the star (*) key. The DE9945 should display “GUI Mode Version 1.1”.

Follow the instruction in the DE9945 User Manual to;

Start the DE9945 GUI app, ES994510.exe, on the PC.

For DE9945 kits fitted with a CMX994:
Program the BIN file, EF9945-1.0.0.2.bin.
Program the FI file, 7241-7341-2.1.5.1.h. into Flash area A
Do not program Flash area B

For DE9945 kits fitted with a CMX994A:
Program the latest BIN file, EF9945-2.x.x.x.bin.
Program the latest FI file, 7241-7341-2.x.x.x.h into Flash area A
Program the latest FI file, 7341-1.x.x.x into Flash area B

Power cycle the DE9945.

The display will read, “DE9945 Demo….” briefly. Followed by, “CML DMR Demo. Version 2.x.x.x”.

The DE9945 should now function as normal.

If the” CML DMR Demo..” message is displayed briefly and followed by, “Error 04.00 01/01. EEPROM error”, this means the write-protected EEPROM has also been erased.

The EEPROM contains configuration information vital to operation of the DE9945. If erased, the DE9945 will not function further to protect itself from damage. To restore the EEPROM data send the serial number of the DE9945 to CML Tech Support, explaining that the DE9945 EEPROM has been erased. CML will return the configuration data which must be entered using the keypad functions by selecting and writing each parameter.

DE9945 FI1.x Demo Scripts – Download

A set of scripts to demonstrate PMR and dPMR operation on the DE9945. The scripts run in GUI mode and require a USB connection to a PC. The GUI application can be downloaded from the Knowledge Base tab.

Voice demo 12.5k BW – Download

This script uses two back-to-back DE9945 boards to demonstrate dPMR voice mode using an AMBE coded 1031Hz tone. The channel bandwidth is 12.5kHz.

DE9945 DMR BER Evaluation – Download

Test DE9945 receiver BER using a DMR burst sequence from an Anritsu S412E (dm2_bs_511(O.153) or RF test set generating the same sequence in voice payload frames. MS and BS sourced bursts are supported. A readme.txt file is provided to help with board and script configuration. One DE9945 is required.
