CML's wireless data products address a wide range of communications and control applications, offering operation to custom, free format and packet data systems.

Most common data-transfer protocols are catered for at a range of speeds from 1.2kbps to 200kbps, utilising: MSK, FFSK, GMSK, 2/4/8/16 FSK and 4/16/32/64 QAM modulation schemes.

The advent of CML's FirmASIC® technology has enabled the availability of the Multi-mode Packet Data Modem offering configurable GMSK/GFSK, 2/4/8/16 FSK, FFSK/MSK and 4/16/32/64 QAM modulation schemes by up-loading the appropriate Function Image™ file.

The CMX7164 multi-mode (GMSK, 2/4/8/16 FSK and 4/16/32/64 QAM) Packet Data Modem and CMX7163 4/16/32/64 QAM Packet Data Modems are complemented by CML's range of RF products, enabling highly integrated wireless data modems to be implemented.

Glossary

FFSK - Fast Frequency Shift Keying: also known as Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) - A form of frequency modulation.
FSK - Frequency Shift Keying: a form of frequency modulation used to transmit two states of a signal each as separate frequencies.
GFSK - Gaussian Filtered Frequency Shift Keying: an FSK modulation scheme with a Gausian filtered output signal.
GMSK - Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying: a type of FSK that uses pre-modulation Gaussian filtering to achieve high data rates in an FM communications channel bandwidth.
DQPSK - Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying: a type of FSK that uses pre-modulation Gaussian filtering to achieve high data rates in an FM communications channel bandwidth.
Gaussian Filter - A filter having the symmetrical bell shape of a (normal distribution) Gaussian curve.
QAM - Quadrature Amplitude Modulation: A hybrid amplitude/phase modulation technique that allows the transmission of four bits of information during a signalling interval, and requires less bandwidth than normal amplitude or phase modulation techniques.
MSK - Minimum Shift Keying: Continuous phase FSK modulation (also known as FFSK)
RF - Radio frequency
LD - Limiter discriminator
