Description
Utilising CML's proprietary FirmASIC® component technology, the CMX7143 is a flexible half-duplex, multi-mode wireless data modem IC that is configured by the appropriate Function Image™ (FI).

This first release Function Image™, FI-2.x allows the configuration of the IC to half-duplex 4-level FSK modem operation at data rates between 4.8kbps and 19.2kbps. Offering fast frame sync detection via Automatic Frame Sync Detection (AFSD), the IC can operate in raw or formatted packet data modes.

Other on-chip features include two auxiliary ADC channels with four selectable inputs and up to four auxiliary DAC outputs (with an optional RAMDAC on the first DAC output, to facilitate transmitter power ramping).

The Function Image™ can be loaded automatically from an external EEPROM or from a host µController over the built-in C-BUS serial interface and the device's functions and features can be enhanced by subsequent Function Image™ releases, facilitating in-the-field upgrades.
GMSK operation via a new FI is planned shortly.
One or more modulation schemes, as Function Images, can be held in either an EEPROM attached to the device or in the host microcontroller's Flash memory. On Power-up one of the stored FIs would be loaded into the device for use. During operation, should a different modulation scheme be required, the operating FI can be replaced as required.

Evaluation Support: The PE0401 is available for the evaluation of this product.
