DSC
Digital Selective Calling: An early maritime communication system.
DSC is a technique of transmitting digital codes which allow suitably equipped stations to:
- Transmit and receive distress alerts
- Transmit and receive distress alert acknowledgments
- Relay distress alerts
- Announce urgency and safety calls
- Initiate routine priority calls and set up working channels for subsequent general
communications on R/T or telex
DSC has recently been overtaken as a maritime safety signalling method by the Automatic Identification System
(AIS)
