CML's wireless data products address a wide range of communications and control applications
Wireless Data Products
CML's wireless data products address a wide range of communications and control applications, offering operation to custom, freeformat and packet data systems.

Markets currently served include:
  • PMR/LMR
  • Trunked and Leisure Radio
  • Radio-paging
  • Telemetry
  • Machine-to-Machine control and monitoring
Most common data-transfer protocols are catered for at a range of speeds from 1.2kbps to 200kbps, utilising: FSK, FFSK, GMSK, p/4DQPSK and 4 level FSK schemes.

The advent of CML's FirmASIC® technology has enabled the design of the CMX7143 Multi-Mode Wireless Data Modem offering configurable GMSK/GFSK, 4-level FSK or FFSK/MSK schemes by the loading of a single FirmASIC® Function Image™ file.

Evaluation Example
The PE0402 Platform Evaluation Kit is designed to assist in the evaluation and application development of the CMX704x/CMX714x range of FirmASIC® products.

The board also incorporates all of the necessary power-supply regulation circuitry for operation from a single 5-volt supply. The board is fitted with a C-BUS connector allowing the PE0402 to be operated by connection to either of the two C-BUS ports on a CML PE0002 Interface Card, and to be used with the associated PC GUI software, or by direct connection between the CMX7040 C-BUS and the user's IC development application or emulation system.

The CMX704x Function Image™ (FI) can be loaded, on power-up, directly into the on-board target IC using the PE0002 interface or the user's own system.
Alternatively, it can be automatically loaded from the on-board serial memory on power-up. In this case, the on-board serial memory has to be preloaded with the FI by using a suitable third party programmer or by using the 'Program Serial Memory' tab on the PE0002 GUI software.

The PE0402 is a back-compatible replacement for the PE0401, with the following enhancements:
  • Pad-ring gives easy access to all CMX704x/CMX714x pins
  • Group functions on individual headers
  • Selectable clock sources:
    • On-board 19.2MHz oscillator module
    • 6.144MHz Xtal
    • External clock (SMA) injection point
  • Multiple 'probe attach' points
  • AC by-pass facility on signal inputs
  • Optional power source from PE0002

Glossary
FFSK Fast Frequency Shift Keying: also known as Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) - A form of frequency modulation.
FSK Frequency Shift Keying: a form of frequency modulation used to transmit two states of a signal each as separate frequencies. FSK is characterised by a frequency spacing of 1.
GFSK Gaussian Filtered Frequency Shift Keying: an FSK modulation scheme with a Gausian filtered output signal.
GMSK Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying: a type of FSK that uses pre-modulation Gaussian filtering to achieve high data rates in an FM communications channel bandwidth.
DQPSK Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying: a modulation technique in which the carrier can assume one of four phases, each change of phase, or symbol, representing 2bits.
The bit combinations being 00, 01, 11 and 10. Consequently the data stream can carry 2 bits (symbols) at a time.
Gaussian Filter A filter having the symmetrical bell shape of a (normal distribution) Gaussian curve.
LMR Land Mobile Radio system. Also known as Public Mobile Radio (PMR) and/or Public Land Mobile Radio (PLMR).
PMR Public Mobile Radio system: Also known as Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and/or Public Land Mobile Radio (PLMR).
QAM Quadrature Amplitude Modulation: A hybrid amplitude/phase modulation technique that allows the transmission of four bits of information during a signalling interval, and requires less bandwidth than normal amplitude or phase modulation techniques.
MSK Minimum Shift Keying: Continuous phase FSK modulation (also known as FFSK) used to transmit two states of a signal as two separate frequencies using coherent detection and a frequency spacing of 0.5.
