January 2008
CML Microcircuits, a leading innovator and provider of low-power semiconductors to Global wireless and telecoms markets, today announced the launch of the CMX7143 with GMSK functionality. The CMX7143 is a highly integrated and adaptable multi-mode wireless data modem IC built on CML's proprietary FirmASIC® component technology. The CMX7143 was initially launched with 4-Level FSK operation, but as the chip is configurable via special Function Image™ data files to enable further wireless data schemes operation, CML followed its proposed route of additional data scheme support to now include GMSK functionality in addition to 4-Level FSK operation.
The CMX7143 is positioned to address the growing global market requirements for multi-mode wireless data
connectivity, offering the unique ability to implement different wireless data schemes with ease when required.
CML's Function Image™ files configure the on-chip sub-systems of the CMX7143, and are uploaded during device initialisation - the product's function and feature set is then defined. A Function Image™ can be loaded automatically from an external EEPROM or host microcontroller over the product's C-BUS serial interface, facilitating in-the-field upgrades if desired.
Offering a host of features including, fast data acquisition, 4.8kbps to 19.2kbps data rates, Automatic Frame Sync
Detection (AFSD), flexible raw and packet data modes, soft decision decoding, RSSI processing
(for Listen Before Transmit Applications) and a C-BUS serial interface to the host microcontroller,
the CMX7143 provides everything that is needed in a wireless multi-mode data modem.
The NEW CMX7143 is available in a small, low power (3.0V to 3.6V with flexible powersave modes), 48-pin VQFN
or LQFP package. An evaluation kit is available (PE0401), facilitating quick and easy design-in.
FirmASIC® - CML’s proprietary FirmASIC®
component technology reduces cost, time to market and development risk,
with increased flexibility for the designer and end application.
